The Alabama Department of Public Health on Friday said that as Alabama continues to see an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases, it’s taking commercial labs and ADPH’s lab an average of seven days to get results.
Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, director of UAB’s division of infectious diseases, said during a press briefing with reporters Wednesday that Alabama is at a “precariously stable point."
Alabama had just 12 percent of the state’s ICU beds available on Monday, and 496 of them were filled with COVID-19 patients, a record high, said Don Williamson, president of the Alabama Hospital Association.
There were a record 1,586 coronavirus patients in hospitals statewide Thursday, breaking the previous record set Monday, the fifth straight day of record-high hospitalizations.
