ALGOP announces qualifying dates for SD 14 special election

The Alabama Republican Party has set qualifying dates for the special election in Alabama Senate District 14.

This vacancy was created when Alabama Governor Kay Ivey appointed State Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, as director of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

Republican qualifying will open online on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at 8:30 a.m. CT. It will close eight days later on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at 5 p.m., per the proclamation issued by Ivey.

If you live in SD14 and are interested in qualifying as a Republican, you should contact Alabama Republican Party executive director Reed Phillips. Anyone needing to qualify in person may do so at Alabama Republican Party headquarters in Hoover, which is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. excluding federal holidays.

Former State Rep. April Weaver, R-Briarfield, has already announced her candidacy for the Senate seat.

Senate District 14 includes portions of Shelby, Bibb and Chilton Counties. The 2021 special election is for the remaining 16 months in Ward’s term.

The special primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. If a primary runoff election is necessary, it will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. The special general election will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.
