Unemployment claims stayed steady last week; almost half COVID-related

There were 7,059 new unemployment claims filed last week in the state, according to the Alabama Department of Labor. That’s about the same as the previous week, when 7,061 new claims were filed.

Of the claims filed between Nov. 25-Dec. 9, 3,317 were related to COVID-19, representing 47 percent.
