New unemployment claims increased slightly last week
Unemployment claims jumped slightly last week as more Alabamians sought benefits.
There were 8,805 new unemployment claims filed in Alabama last week, slightly more than the 8,679 filed the previous week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor.
Of the claims filed between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26, 4,088, or 46 percent, were related to COVID-19. That’s slightly lower than the 51 percent the previous week.
