These grants address a range of community needs, from upgrading water and sewer systems to building fire stations.

A majority of the funds are designated by HUD for the areas most impacted by the hurricanes, which include all of Mobile and Baldwin counties.

The funds were made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
