The nothingness of Tommy Tuberville

There is no reason to vote for Tuberville for anything, much less for one of Alabama’s two Senate seats. There never has been, and through two years of campaigning, he’s never given you a reason. Because Tommy Tuberville has never truly said anything at all.

Alabama flying blind into “reopening” thanks to Trump’s failures

Where are the tests?  Save your rhetoric. Save your excuses. Save your ridiculous blaming of some other country.  And tell us where the tests are.  Because we were supposed to have them long ago. Enough tests for “anyone that needs a test gets a test.”  Remember that whopper from the reality-show-racist y’all decided to let … Continued

Are Alabama voters really as hateful, shallow and scared as the GOP Senate field thinks?

Tommy Tuberville’s former players have no idea who this current version of Tommy Tuberville is.  Bradley Byrne’s longtime friends in the Alabama Legislature have been bewildered by Byrne’s full-on embrace of fear tactics and hate-mongering.  Jeff Sessions’ longtime supporters are confused by his spineless groveling to a president who quite clearly can’t stand him.  So, … Continued

DeMarco misses the point of recent ACLU report

Paul DeMarco wrote a letter to the editor dated January 13, 2020, in which he responded to a recent report by the Campaign for Smart Justice with ACLU of Alabama. The report analyzed 5 years-worth of data and projected a spike in Alabama’s already overcrowded prison population in 2020, mostly due to the parole board … Continued

MLK Day: A time for change

Today, as the nation celebrates MLK Day, Alabama still tacks Robert E. Lee onto its observances. But it’s time to end that practice as a new generation deserves to see a better Alabama. Alabama Code, Title 1. General Provisions § 1-3-8 enumerates the state’s legal public holidays, which lists the third Monday in January as … Continued

Moore: Trump rhetoric, efforts to fight illegal immigration not to blame for dropping international student enrollments

Tuesday, former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore (R) defended President Donald J. Trump (R) from suggestions that his policies and rhetoric on immigration are responsible for a recent drop in foreign student enrollment in U.S. colleges and universities. “I do not believe that restrictions on illegal aliens flooding our borders has anything to do with … Continued

It is the guns. It is the rhetoric.

It’s the video games.  Or the mental health problems.  Or the violent TV shows.  Or maybe, even, it could be that the liberals have coddled these troubled minds too much.  Yep, it’s definitely one of those things, or all of those things. But the two things it can never be are the weapons of war … Continued

Why do Alabama governors insist on taking the unpopular path?

We’re doing it again. The same thing. We’re doing the same thing again, and hoping for a different outcome. Which I believe is the definition of insanity. And that might as well be our state motto at this point. Alabama: The Insane State. The state where the people continue to elect people who promise to … Continued

There is hope for Alabama

There is hope. It is thin and fragile and has 4th-and-18 odds, but make no mistake about it, there is hope in Alabama for a better future. For better leadership from better leaders who don’t dwell on scare tactics or divide us with racism — leaders who value ethics and who want to serve the … Continued
