Alabama NAACP honors Dorothea Crosby
Crosby will receive the Pathmaker Award for civil rights advocacy, voter education and community-centered leadership shaped by a family legacy.
The Alabama State NAACP announced this week it is proudly congratulating its first vice president and Metro Birmingham’s branch president, Dorothea Crosby, on being named the recipient of the prestigious Pathmaker Award at the Steel City Legacy Gala on July 18, 2026.
The organization said this distinguished honor recognizes Crosby’s unwavering commitment to advancing civil rights, protecting voting rights, expanding voter education and voter registration efforts, promoting social and economic justice, and empowering communities through principled, servant-centered leadership.
Growing up in a multi-generational family dedicated to the struggle for civil rights helped shape Crosby’s steadfast commitment to service, advocacy and leadership, the Alabama State NAACP shared in its press release. “Her life’s work reflects the enduring mission and values of the NAACP to advance equality, protect civil rights, and create opportunities that empower individuals, families, and communities.”
