Doctors successfully removed fluid pressing against Governor Kay Ivey’s lung, allowing her to return home with no expected complications.
Governor Kay Ivey returned to the Governor’s Mansion after a successful procedure at Baptist Medical Center South, the governor’s office said Friday.
The governor’s spokesperson said doctors removed fluid that had been pressing against Ivey’s lung and that she is not expected to face short- or long-term complications.
Ivey remained at Baptist South for two nights after the procedure and stayed engaged in the legislative process, other state business and current events, the spokesperson said.
Ivey thanked the doctors, nurses and staff at Baptist South for their work and said she appreciated the support, prayers and well-wishes from Alabamians.
She plans to work from the Mansion through the weekend and expects to return to the Capitol next week.
