Auburn student chapter wins award at national convention

The AGC Student Chapter at Auburn University announced this week it has been named the national recipient of the Student Chapter Impact Award by the Associated General Contractors of America during the organization’s annual convention in Orlando.

The award recognizes student chapters that demonstrate a significant and measurable impact on their members, their community and the construction industry throughout the academic year. It specifically honors chapters that excel in organizing networking opportunities, community service initiatives, fundraising efforts and participation in construction competitions.

The award-winning chapter is part of Auburn’s McWhorter School of Building Science and has built a reputation nationally for the strength of its student leadership, industry engagement and commitment to service, the organization shared in its press release. According to the chapter’s award application, the group includes nearly 200 members and is structured to operate similarly to a small construction company, providing students with real-world leadership experience while planning a full calendar of professional development, service and networking events.

Throughout the academic year, the chapter organized resume and interview workshops, industry site visits, community service projects and major networking events that regularly connected more than 100 students with construction professionals. Members also participated in numerous regional and national construction competitions, earning multiple top-place finishes while representing Auburn and the construction profession at a high level.

The Auburn chapter maintains a strong partnership with Alabama Associated General Contractors, which provides support for events, professional development programs and opportunities for students to engage directly with contractors across the state. The collaboration has helped the chapter expand its reach and strengthen its impact both on campus and in the construction community.

Auburn’s recognition at the national convention is said to reinforce the university’s reputation as one of the country’s leading programs in construction education and leadership development.
