Pete Buttigieg to visit Birmingham for town hall with Mayor Randall Woodfin

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will join Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin for a town hall at the historic Carver Theatre today.

The event, organized by Blueprint Alabama—a political action committee aimed at promoting Democratic candidates in the state—will feature a conversation between Buttigieg and Mayor Woodfin in which they will cover a range of topics including economic opportunity, infrastructure, neighborhood priorities and the current political climate.

“Secretary Buttigieg has been one of the leading voices in the country on infrastructure investment, economic development, and the future of American communities,” Blueprint Alabama stated in a Facebook announcement. “We are proud to welcome him to Birmingham for this important conversation alongside Mayor Woodfin.”

The event will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, with doors set to open 30 minutes prior. Admission is free but reservations are required.

Buttigieg previously visited Birmingham in 2023, when the Biden-Harris Administration awarded more than $21.6 million to pay for street infrastructure in Birmingham’s Civil Rights District. He returned to the city in 2024 to further discuss ways street improvements could strengthen the community.

The former Transportation Secretary also endorsed Woodfin during his 2025 mayoral reelection campaign.

Additionally, Buttigieg’s visit to the Magic City comes amidst rumors of a 2028 presidential bid, with his visit to Birmingham just one of many stops in a recent tour across the country promoting Democratic candidates and speaking with constituents.
