Troy University launched a business series offering workshops and a pitch competition with $10,000 in funding for student and local entrepreneurs.

Troy University announced this week that the IDEA Empowerment Series and Competition has gotten underway at the IDEA Bank in downtown Troy and is designed to support growth and business development.

The series brings with it a chance to compete for $10,000 in a pitch competition, that isn’t limited to just workshop participants. Both the workshops and the pitch competition are open to student and non-student entrepreneurs.

“The workshops are open to anyone who is interested in learning, growing and engaging in the community,” said IDEA Bank Director Lynne George.

Applications for the pitch competition close on March 20, while the second workshop, “Building Your Action Plan” is set for March 11.

The program is powered by Regions Bank, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and the Sorrell College of Business’ IDEA Bank.

Also under way is the MAX Accelerator Workshops. Three personal-finance oriented sessions are upcoming, at the IDEA Bank beginning at 11:30 a.m.:

  • March 5 is “Building Financial Credibility: Banking, Credit and Capital;”
  • April 16 is “Make it Make Money: Pricing, Profit and Growth;” and
  • April 29 is “Don’t Get Burned: Taxes, Records and Compliance.”
