U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, on Friday released the following statement in response to two federal court rulings blocking the Trump Administration from cutting off funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP:

“I am relieved that our federal courts have stepped in to prevent the heartless Republican efforts to rip food away from hungry families. All along, the Trump Administration had the ability to release the emergency SNAP funds and keep families fed. Their refusal to do so was not just a callous choice, but a blatant violation of the law. The administration must follow these orders and ensure families receive their November benefits.”

Last week, Sewell joined virtually every House Democrat in a letter to U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins demanding that the Trump Administration release the more than $5 billion in SNAP contingency funds in November.
