Rep. Sewell votes against “partisan” Republican spending bill

U.S. Representative Terri Sewell released the following statement last Friday after voting against the House Republicans’ spending bill she called partisan:

“Despite controlling the House, Senate, and White House, Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have once again failed to do their job and fund the government. The American people deserve better.

“Instead of spending time working on a budget to fund critical healthcare programs, veterans’ benefits, education and employment training, and disaster relief, Republicans chose to spend their time passing President Trump’s Big Ugly Bill which rips away health care from millions of Americans in order to give tax breaks to billionaires.

“I voted no on Republicans’ partisan spending bill because I will not rubber-stamp their assault on our health care system. I call on Republicans to keep the government open and work with Democrats to lower costs and protect the health care of the American people.”

Sewell represents Alabama’s 7th Congressional District.
