Newly selected speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter, R-Rainsville, issued a statement Thursday on the storm damage caused by a long-track tornado that tore through the state.

“The weather system that swept across our state (Thursday) left behind unthinkable damage and loss of life,” Ledbetter said. “My deepest sympathies go out to those suffering in the wake of this storm. I’m continuing to reach out to our representatives in affected areas to make sure they’re safe and see where they need help. Days like today remind us how precious life is and how dangerous these storms can be.”

Ledbetter and his staff have been in contact with state and local officials on the extent of Thursday’s storm damage. Speaker Ledbetter will travel to Autauga and Dallas counties on Saturday to survey the extent of Thursday’s storm damage.
