New unemployment claims increased last week
Half of the new claims were related to the pandemic.
There were 12,664 new unemployment claims filed last week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor. Of those, 6,362 are estimated to be related to COVID-19, representing 50 percent.
The number of claims increased from 11,615 the previous week, when 49 percent were estimated to be related to the pandemic.
