Chris Lewis gains endorsement for U.S. Congress

Chris Lewis gains endorsement for U.S. Congress

A Huntsville-based defense firm has endorsed Chris Lewis for U.S. Congress.

Dynetics announced Sunday that it is supporting Lewis’s run for Alabama’s 5th Congressional district seat held by five-term incumbent Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville. The Republican primary will be held on March 3, 2020.

Dynetics is a science and technology company whose primary customers include the Department of Defense and NASA. Dynetics’ endorsement comes two days after news that Brooks had out-raised Lewis five to one.

In the 2018 election cycle, Dynetics contributed $6,000 to the campaign of Mo Brooks and other amounts to House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and Rep. Bradley Bryne. If Dynetics was to donate $6,000 to Lewis’ campaign as they did for Brooks, it would be Lewis’s largest donation as of yet.

Lewis co-opted the phrase, “Service before self,” a philosophy he was raised to follow, since he announced his campaign on April 13. This philosophy led Lewis to an education from the Naval Academy and Naval War College and a lengthy naval career. Lewis’ team says that Dynetics’ endorsement highlights his understanding of the nation’s defense system.
