Strange wants to focus on charter-school legislation, Believe It campaign

Staff Report

Barring a veto override, it appears that Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange has successfully steered the conversation on public education away from the possibility of a city-run school system.

Strange vetoed a City Council resolution that passed with a 5-to-4 vote last week, but the resolution’s sponsor, District 8 Councilman Glen Pruitt, has said he plans to attempt to override the veto. It will take five votes to do so.

Instead of channeling the city’s energy into studying the feasibility of a city-run school system, Strange wants to see city officials get behind legislation that will allow Montgomery to have charter schools.
